Defense of the Bacalar Lagoon

For several years, we have supported different civic actors working to protect the hydrological basin of this lagoon, which is of strategic importance for the biosphere due to the strong presence of stromatolites in its waters.

We are currently working on structuring a comprehensive environmental preservation project for the Bacalar Lagoon, in partnership with the association Agua Clara Ciudadanos por Bacalar, based on two main axes:one project aimed at improving pollution analysis of the lagoon, and another long-term project focused on environmental education and awareness for local residents and tourism service providers operating around the lagoon.

We also support the activities of the association Buffon SA, which runs a cultural and educational program with children through humor and artistic activities. This initiative helps raise environmental awareness among children living in disadvantaged neighborhoods around the Bacalar Lagoon.

In addition, we have coordinated two projects carried out by interns around the Bacalar Lagoon. These projects focused on strengthening the associative activities of local stakeholders involved in eco-tourism and on developing sustainable development initiatives for the region.

More recently, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to support Agua Clara Ciudadanos por Bacalar. You can find it in the “Fund the Projects” section of the “Take Action” menu.
